Stripes and checks are technical and tactile, subtle and special. Soft wool check in a tonal, granite ombre was inspired by a “tirelle” – the sampler of swatches sent by a fabric mill.

CHATSWORTH HOUSE
“"I was approached by curator Glenn Adamson, who wanted me to respond to one of Chatsworth's incredible rooms. I was immediately drawn to the chapel, which felt to me untouched since its creation by the first Duke. This is connected to the Oak Room - an entirely contrasting space panelled with oak from a monastery in Germany." - Faye Toogood
FURNITURE
All of the pieces are handmade by small-scale fabricators and traditional artisans, with an honesty to the irregularity of the chosen material.

This commission arrived as I was in the middle of Assemblage 7, my most ambitious work with wood and stone. The shellac stained, polished oak pieces of Assemblage 7 were in part inspired by the refined polished wood found in stately homes like Chatsworth. And the Purbeck marble we were using is normally seen in ecclesiastical buildings. Wonderfully serendipitous." - Faye Toogood

ANCESTRAL SEATS
Burghley House, the treasure-trove Elizabethan home of the cecil dynasty, doesn't exactly lack outstanding pieces of furniture. But there's always room for a few more additions-strikingly modern included, so long as they boast unimpeachable design pedigree. With and eye for a finely turned leg of four, Gianluca Longo sets out the chairs peerlessly.

FAYE TOOGOOD ON MATERIAL
"My first piece of furniture was made from sycamore. A blonde wood, like ash or pine, but with a much more delicate grain."
