ABOUT TOOGOOD

Toogood is a London-based design studio founded and led by Faye Toogood. Faye and her team create timeless works of unconventional design, including but never limited to clothing, furniture, interiors and homeware. At the centre of every Toogood project is a restless spirit of experimentation, and a joy taken in process and play. On each project, designers, furniture makers, sculptors and interior designers cross-pollinate to produce work that is bold and sculptural, but always designed for everyday use.

FASHION

The fashion side of the business was co-founded by Faye and her sister Erica Toogood. Toogood clothing is instilled with the unmistakable spirit of both sisters: Faye’s preoccupation with materiality and Erica’s audacious shape-making. One a tinker, the other a tailor.

A celebration of craftsmanship and trades has been at the core of the Toogood brand from the outset. Each piece takes its name, inspiration and cut from a traditional trade: the "Metalworker" jacket, the ‘Stonemason’ trouser, and so on. Since 2013, best-selling styles such as The Photographer Jacket, The Baker Trouser and The Draughtsman Shirt have become Toogood classics. A large sewn-in "passport" label acknowledges all the people who have worked on each piece, from the designers to the cutter, the sewer, and the presser. There is also a space for the wearer to add their initials, their link in the chain of the life of the garment.

FURNITURE AND HOMEWARE

Toogood furniture is bold and sculptural, but always meticulously functional. Key pieces in the range are the iconic plump Roly-Poly in glowing raw fibreglass, the hardy Cobble stools finished in a laboratory-grade ceramic glaze and Gummy, a fully upholstered chair with generous, anthropomorphic proportions. All Toogood pieces are handmade by small scale fabricators and expert artisans with an honesty to the chosen material.

Toogood produces made-to-order furniture and homewares, as well as limited-edition gallery pieces which are sold through Friedman Benda in New York.

Faye’s furniture crosses the boundary into fine art, and has been exhibited at museums including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the D Museum, Seoul, The National Gallery of Victoria Biennale and Chatsworth House. Works have also been acquired for the permanent collections of several museums including Philadelphia Museum of Art, Dallas Museum of Art, High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Corning Museum of Glass in New York, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Vitra Design Museum.

INTERIORS

The practice has executed numerous house interiors for private clients.

A Mayfair apartment designed for a pair of American art collectors is filled with commissioned furniture pieces made by craftsmen and artists alongside bespoke designs by Faye Toogood. The penthouse at Tapestry in King’s Cross is a monumental space with a richly textured finish and a colour palette inspired by scudding skies. For Casa Paloma, a seven-bedroom villa in Ibiza, Toogood oversaw every aspect of the interior to the finest detail, even executing the artworks that hang on the walls.

The practice has also made a name for itself with a number of extraordinary projects for commercial fashion clients, including the Mulberry store on Regent Street, the flagship Carhartt showroom in King’s Cross, Tiina the Store in the Hamptons, and site-specific installations for Hermes and Selfridges.
