TOOGOOD AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK

June 2022

RE-CUT Toogood x Carhartt WIP

The Toogood x Carhartt WIP capsule collection is now available to purchase online, and select Carhartt WIP stores. The collection will also be sold by select retailers worldwide, including Mr Porter, Selfridges and Dover Street Market London, Ginza and Singapore.

The new collection launches at Milan Design Week with an installation celebrating the brands' shared design ethics and appreciation for well-made clothing that lasts.

Standing within Spazio Maiocchi are three giant sculptural puppets wearing oversized versions of the collaboration garments that demonstrate the cutting intervention on Carhartt WIP's classic styles, described as 'hacks'.

By cutting open and patching the original pieces in contrast coloured fabric, the lines of the recut, the added volume and length, are laid bare. These ‘hacks’ have been documented as photographic prints on aluminium and will be presented at the Milan Design Week installation.

Coinciding with the Toogood x Carhartt WIP collaboration launch, sculptural installations constructed in canvas will also be held in select Carhartt WIP and Dover Street Market stores around the world.

Milan Design Week, Spazio Maiocchi, 7th - 11th June, 11am - 9pm

New Book - Faye Toogood: Drawing, Material, Sculpture, Landscape

The event at Milan Design Week will also exclusively preview Faye's new book - Faye Toogood: Drawing, Material, Sculpture, Landscape published by Phaidon on 21st June.

This is the first in-depth look at all aspects of Faye Toogood's work, from clothes and furniture, to installations and interior design. The book explores Toogood's unique approach to design through the studio's guiding principles: drawing, material, sculpture and landscape.

The monograph, edited by Alistair O’Neill, not only showcases Toogood's work, but also reveals the fascinating creative process behind her design and illustrates the interconnectedness across a range of practices.

New Toogood Furniture

Alongside the Toogood x Carhartt WIP collaboration, Toogood is previewing prototypes of new furniture at Milan Design Week.

Cobble Tables

Find a pebble, pick it up: Faye Toogood’s new ceramic furniture works have that kind of serendipity. Called Cobble, they are indeed like stones, up from the pavements. No-nonsense objects, durable and smoothly rounded. Yet they have the irregular, expressive contours of nature – or sculpture.

Cobble is available in two sizes, suggesting use as a stool or table. Incised rectangular notches articulate the edges, adding an element of intrigue.

The forms were first hand-sculpted in plaster, imbuing them with subtle imperfections and gentle asymmetries, all of which are left intact. Each Cobble is then cast in a factory specialised in laboratory-grade ceramics.

The pieces are protected by a gloss-finish glaze in a choice of four colourways: bottle green, chestnut brown, cream and pebble grey.
