Palette Side Table / Oak

Sale price£3,700.00

The Palette Side Table is formed from intersecting, curving shapes, with an organic top contour inspired by an artist’s paint palette. Soft, non-geometric forms and generous rounding give the piece a quiet sculptural presence, resolved through careful joinery without visible fixings.

Offered in both Limed Oak and Scorched Oak, each piece is made from sustainably sourced British oak and sealed with wax to create a subtle surface sheen.

In the Limed Oak finish, a natural chemical reaction is used to gently darken the tone of the wood, a traditional process historically employed to protect timber furniture.

In Scorched Oak, the surface is blackened using a controlled flame that carbonises and seals the wood, exposing and accentuating the natural grain. In both finishes, the process responds to the grain and sap content of the oak, resulting in tonal variation and surface character unique to each piece.

The Making of Gummy

Gummy is a family of fully upholstered seating boasting generous, anthropomorphic proportions.

Made in the UK using traditional upholstery techniques, Gummy is constructed entirely from natural materials. The form is built up by hand, layer by layer, allowing material behaviour and process to shape the final object. British-sourced wool, coconut husk padding and natural latex replace conventional foam, resulting in upholstery that is breathable, resilient and naturally fire retardant.

Each Gummy piece is designed to work alongside its rotund kin, or confidently stand alone.

“With all of the pieces I design, I want the playful and the unexpected to be brought to life with exceptional craft. Gummy combines Toogood’s disdain for convention with a deep respect of tradition and quality.”

- Faye Toogood

Materials & Process

At the heart of the studio is a restless spirit of experimentation, and a deep seated respect for materials. These two pillars of creativity and craft can be found in each piece, from the ironically plump Roly- Poly in glowing raw fibreglass, to the hardy Cobble collection finished in laboratory- grade ceramic glaze
